Japan’s falling birthrate means fewer school-leavers and greater competition for top students than ever before. Ryukoku University asked us to help them revamp their brand to attract the best.
Founded on Buddhist principles, and located in the heart of historic Kyoto, Ryukoku was seen as serious and reserved.
To energize and update the brand without abandoning its heritage, we updated the university’s image with a bold, contemporary style. A new logo merged traditional values with the energy of young people, embracing the possibilities of the future. The new slogan, ‘You, unlimited’, celebrated students’ aspirations and personal growth, while a strong digital presence boosted brand visibility. We also enlivened their campus making it more reflective of the student perspective.
By challenging perceptions and elevating the student experience, we greatly increased publicity and digital traffic, and improved Ryukoku’s desirability for our target. With renewed relevance, Ryukoku has raised its profile as a destination for Japan’s most promising minds.
