Change of Leadership at Interbrand Central and Eastern Europe

Walter Brecht follows Dr. Jürgen Häusler as CEO

Cologne, Zurich, April 1, 2009 – Interbrand, the leading brand consultancy, will have a new Chief Executive Officer for Central and Eastern Europe effective April 1, 2009. Walter Brecht has been appointed regional CEO, replacing Dr. Jürgen Häusler who has held the position since 2001 during which he cemented Interbrand's clear leadership role in the German speaking markets for brand building and corporate identity.

Häusler will assume the chairmanship of the region, reporting to Jean-Baptiste-Danet, CEO for Europe. He will continue to commit his immense knowledge and expertise to evolving Interbrand’s methods and products, and will continue his close working relationships with key clients. "I'm pleased to be able to hand the leadership of our group to Walter Brecht, a very experienced brand expert, a highly valued colleague and one of my good friends at Interbrand," Häusler said.

Brecht started his career as a consultant at Booz, Allen Hamilton. He went on to take responsibility for strategic corporate development at the Cologne-based Kaufhof Group and was marketing manager of the tour operator ITS, also in Cologne. Since 1995 he has played an integral role at Interbrand Central and Eastern Europe managing key accounts such as Rewe, ThyssenKrupp, Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband (the German Savings Bank Association), Vienna Airport and SAP.

"I am looking forward to further consolidating our group's position within German-speaking Europe and to working with my Interbrand colleagues across our network to continue our efforts to build ‘one firm’ across the world," said Brecht. "For all of us, everywhere, the economic situation requires us to be both dependable and innovative partners to our clients –many brands see the potential to emerge from this crisis with a stronger position, it’s our job to make sure we help them seize the opportunity. Targeted investment in brands can provide the basis to emerge as an even stronger contender when economies recover," Brecht added.

"At this time we need both continuity and change, and with Walter as our new leader in this important market, we will achieve both. Walter knows our strengths and is also aware of the challenges and demands that tomorrow will bring to our markets and our clients – especially in these economically challenging times. We live in an age where we must deliver a joined up Interbrand to both our clients and our people. Our business enjoys collaborating, Walter is a great collaborator and I have every confidence that he will prove a worthy successor to Dr. Jürgen Häusler," said Global Chief Executive Jez Frampton.

As CEO, Walter Brecht will take over the strategic and operational management of Interbrand Central and Eastern Europe in conjunction with a seasoned – and unchanged – management board that comprises Diana Strebel (Chief Operating Officer Europe and Managing Director, Zurich), Christopher Wünsche (Managing Director, Munich), Richard Veit (Managing Director, Hamburg), Andreas Rotzler (Chief Creative Officer) and Jürg Meier (Chief Financial Officer).
