Interbrand wins red dot award for excellent design of Usiminas

Munich, August 12th, 2009 – Interbrand's collaborative design work for the Brazilian mining and steel group, Usiminas, has won the communication design 2009 red dot award, which acknowledges outstanding design in our industry. The project demonstrates once more Interbrand's high level of creativity and design quality on an international stage.

This is the third award for Usiminas' new corporate identity already this year. Just recently, Usiminas also won a gold award at the "Corporate Design Preis" 2009. And at this year's iF communication design awards, one of the most important international design awards in the world, an international jury of outstanding and renowned design experts was also duly impressed by the new brand launch of one of South America's biggest and most modern steel producers and presented Usiminas with the coveted iF label.

Usiminas – great potential in every detail.
The Brazilian steel company Usiminas is one of the biggest and most modern steel producers in South America. For more than 4,000 years, steel has played a central role in cultural and industrial developments. Today, Usiminas steel is everywhere: in buildings, cars, watches, and more. In some areas, as much as 90% of the population is indirectly dependent on Usiminas. As a result, the company's concern for economic and social responsibility is central to the new brand launch. In the movement and changing colors of the Usiminas "U", Usimina's new corporate identity reminds consumers not only of the original steel mill pan, but of their transparency and optimism for future-thinking mining practices.
