Working Together

Honda Motors has partnered in a joint venture with the municipal government of Saitama, Japan, to test the use of its ultra-lightweight vehicles as an alternative to traditional mass-transit systems. Honda is also participating in a cross-industry collaboration with Japanese home builder Sekisui House and the Toshiba Corporation to create a series of test houses that Honda CEO, Takanobu Ito, hopes will reveal new synergies between industries’ green technologies, and result in new value for consumers. In a similar initiative, Honda has built the Honda Smart Home in partnership with the University of California, Davis. A testing ground for new green technologies, the model home will help Honda learn more about the link between sustainable energy and electric vehicle use.

Honda has made efforts to join in green ventures and partnerships consistent with its energy-efficiency and sustainable-mobility research and development goals. The brand should expand Corporate Citizenship activities to influence current energy consumption and transportation habits as well. Those who respond to and participate in these campaigns and initiatives should be viewed as the future consumers of the technologies Honda is developing. To gain the most from its sustainability efforts, the brand must strive to bridge green innovation and eco-friendly customer habits across markets and borders.
